Let's Make 2010 A Great Year for VeloViet!

We can feel 2010 will be a great year for our SUPER TEAM.
Let's put together a list of all the big rides so team members can plan and attend with all of us!
Let's help all members to get the VeloViet kits so they can wear with us on all the big rides!
Let's train and motivate each other to train harder so we can be a better rider for 2010!
Let's have fun and show our pride on the road so local cyclists will have nothing to say but "Wow!" whenever they come across with VeloViet peloton!
That is all folks!

  1. This is a good motivation for winter training. Hopefully, you'll find people with common interest nearby. Sports are a mean to reach out to new friends.

Good luck with your winter training.

  2. Hi Quang,

There has not been a lot of rain so far in So Cal so the folks here have been doing a lot of riding I think. On last Sunday, a few "Group B" riders really showed "Group A" potentials on the ride. We had Rookie Cuong who was attacking all the time. Anh Minh was real strong and took the front on the way out a few times, and the Rock Racers took turn and dialed it up to 28mph on the way back. I had a hard time holding the pace. Yikes! I need to ride more.

We are working on our paceline, but need more improvements on the rotation part. There seemed to be a lot of strong guys now, so we want to see if everyone can hold top speed at a 30 second rotation. The river trail is a bit tight for this training though.

Keep up with your Winter training. The OC guys knows you, your brother, and Thai now, so we all are training to give you guys more of a challenge (hopefully) the next time the teams meet. This will get Thai motivated and into more spin classes so let him know!

  3. Hello Phong and OC VVs,
I am glad to hear that NO RAIN lately in CA so you all can train often/harder to make VV peloton look better/stronger every day. Phong, you are not only great writer but also getting stronger and stronger each ride. You are truly an A riders now! Congratulation!

    Cuong and anh Minh!
Keep up your hard work ok but don't pull too long and end up get drop. You work too hard to get up there ... try to finish the whole ride with A group is the final product of an A rider :)

    Paceline:
Please take the advice from Scott and take class at the Velodrome or race101 course. It only costed me less then $100 but probably had save me skin and cost of replacement brake hoods and VV kit each time if we crash ... not to mention leaving bad reputation with your name to local cyclists.
You will learn how to paceline? how to draft within 2-4 inches from the person in front of you? if touch wheel how NOT to crash? You also will learn to lean/touch your partner without worry about crashig ... that is just a few ... Wow! that is what pro do, so if you want to look like pro then take this class. Warning! after taking this class NO GUARANTEE you will be a pro rider! :)

    About Thai in MN,
This dude need NO MOTIVATION man! He trains average 3 hrs a day and everyday. Each time he calls me ... listen to his sharing from his training made me dizzy! Yesterday, after spinning at home for 90min, then he workout at the gym and then swam or another hour ... Wow! this guy is an animal.

    Motivation?
I am the one that need motivation! 2+ years ago, I was able to lead the pack in front on every ride ... NOW with many stronger riders in the team ... I was suffer often to keep up with the fast guys last summer. You guys did not see Oscar and Tim yet, Dashaan was here and saw Oscar in action ... he can climb, sprinting faster then anyone in our team. Even Thai can not keep up with him on hill ... so you know. But I promised myself 2010 will be a better year for me to keep up with these animals. So I will do WHAT EVER IT TAKES!!!

If you OC guys could come to MN in 2010, here are few rides or weekends that I believe you will enjoy. It is up to you to choose to have fun or challenging ride?

    1. MN Ironman Bike Ride Sunday April 25th.
NOT good for you if you can not handle cold ~ 40-50 degree and sometime snow too. But good new is that most of us still fat and slow!

    2. Double Century 202 miles on Sat June 26th.
This time of the year is best for you guys because weather often 55-85 for the day + sun. Wind only 5-15mph so far on the 2 years I rode. THIS RIDE WILL GIVE YOU CERTIFICATE and TIME STAMP off this ride... You can hang it on your wall after. We can also organize 100+ miles group to ride the middle section of this route so you can enjoy ridind around lake Mille Lac.

    3. Tour De Tonka Sat Aug 7th.
This probably will be the most fun event and show time for VeloViet because riders will be looking for VeloViet to draft to finish line. We pull the entire 2000+ riders last year. Also perfect weather, longest distance only ~75 miles with ~2500ft of climb. Other option for shorter route too. VeloViet HPTeam was leading the pack last year and plan to do it again but bigger team. If OC can come ... WOW! We will have lots of fun!

    4. Dairyland Dare Ride Sat Aug 14th.
This could be the most brutal and challenging if you want to conquer your fear of long distance and super hilly route.
    300km with 22,300 ft,
    200km with 13K ft, OR
100km with 7k ft... ALL IN ONE DAY!

    5. Jesse James Bike Tour Sat Sept 11th.
Could be fun but riders with small children tense to missed these event because of back to school.

    6. Headwater100 end of Sept... could be too cold for you guys from CA. This year if NO RACE we will have TEAM TT of 6 riders flying the course of 37miles with ~1200ft.

These are all the main rides that we will do. We can also plan our own ride if you come here at different weekend as above.

    Take care and ride hard!
