Thuy Van, Saigon TV's gorgeous reporter, and camera crew showed up a little after 6:30 AM at Miles Square Park. A small group of VeloViets, Cap't Thomas, Toan, Kristy, Luke, and Haldane were there to greet the TV crew. The Rock Racing Crew rolled in short after.

After all the logistics discussion, Thuy Van conducted interviews with the VeloViet members. Here are some photos below.

By this time, all of the VeloViets showed up to MSP. The parking lot was packed! I think there were around 40 VeloViets at MSP, plus another 3 or 4 members at the PCH rest stop! We lined up for the traditional group shot.
After the interview, Toan gave Thuy Van a quick tutorial on how to change gears. VeloViets lines up and off we go. Check out the video below.
The first half of the ride was a steady 17 mph to let the camera crew film the VeloViets. There were a lot of chatting all around. I was doing my super sprint back-n-forth trying to capture the moment. Man we were super clean on the paceline. Even with all the talking, everyone was doing real well and keeping a nice straight line. Surprisingly, I think it was harder keeping straight going slower. Good job VeloViets!
At the PCH rest stop, Cap't Thomas snuck in for some pictures with the ladies. Man he was a happy camper with all the super models surrounding him!

Here we met up with Candy, BigH, and FedEx. After a short rest, off we went to the next stop. Here more interviews were conducted and more photos were taken.

Here Thuy Van bid us goodbye and Cap't Thomas took her back to MSP in his car. The ride back was hard and made up for the slow ride coming here. The group splintered into two and I was in the second group, having waited for some of our slower members on the Newport Coast climb. We had Haldane, Toan, and about 6 other members and we put in all of our effort to chase the front group.
Somehow we made it back before the first group! Turns out they waited for us and also took a differnt way back. We packed up and headed to our favorite coffee shop to bond and talk over today's event.
In the end, the "Mission Impossible" turned into a successful mission! Thanks to Toan and Can for setting things up, and to all members who showed up. Special thanks to SaigonTV's reporter Thuy Van for riding with us, and to the camera crew who supported her!
Out,
Phong
Wow! What a great looking team there! Beautiful looking lady TV reporter and she is still looking fresh @ rest stop mean that she is really in good shape for not even sweating. If she is joining VV ... U guys better train harder or will never get to see her beautiful smile because how can U see her face if U get drop? LOL!
ReplyDeleteI can see from the pics that you AWESOME VeloViet crew looking so happy either because of Thuy Trang or because U get to ride @ 17mph? :)
We wish we can be there to join with U guys and the TV crew, that would be fun but we are too far away. Can Thuy Van come to Mpls, MN to interview us too? We will be ready! :)
Current VV HPTeam in MN are preparing for our VeloViet 4 days training camp this coming weekend with lot of riding! Will do recap and send U pics/video soon.
Very exciting season awaiting for all VeloViet so let's ride on and ride safe!
VeloViet HPTeam of MN,

We had a great turn out and everyone had a wonderful time. Thuy Van rode well and showed us that she can keep up even on a heavier bike. We demonstrated that we can ride fast as well as slow :). It was a little tricky keeping a nice long paceline at a slow pace but we managed to pull it off without any contacts.
ReplyDeleteThe return ride at our usual speed was great. Nice ascend on Newport Coast and descend on San Joaquin and a swift and steady pace on PCH and SART to finish off. It was a perfect Sunday ride. Thanks everyone for showing up.
Thank you to every VV member that were able to join us on this new venture - camera crew and interviews. You guys are now celebrities.
ReplyDeleteThanks to Rock Racer Crew for setting up initial meeting with Saigon TV and interview lady - Thuy Van. Finally, A Toan and Phong for your coordination and planning. I would say, "it was a successful day." In the words of TV crew or filming, "That's a Wrap!" Until next time.

I would like to give a special BIG Thanks to SGTV with their beautiful athletic host and professional camera crews who sacrificed their Sunday time with VeloViet. Thanks to RR brothers making this happened and Phong for this recap...VeloViet once again having a chance to show the world how we are in sport spirit and in STYLE. Looking at the tight, straight pace-line that taking a lot of discipline, strength and days/months/years of practicing. Thanks everyone who came out and join this big date, as far as I can see you guys were all AWESOME!
ReplyDeleteRide on...
