The Race for the 2010 Rookie of the Year

Ladies and gentlemen, place your bets. The race for the 2010 VeloViet Rookie of the Year has started! This year will be an exciting one to watch as the VeloViet Cycling Club has accepted into the group a couple of exceptionally strong rookie riders.

Shown above is Cuong, in the blue jersey, who have been riding with us this past month. Although new to group riding, he has shown bursts of strength and endurance. Just check out those quads!

Just accepted also is a new VeloViet rider name TZ, who has triathlon background. TZ is another outstanding rider, and has a solid and compact built similar to Tri-Team Fed-X of Palomar's fame. If these two ever meets on Mount Palomar, it will be an exciting ride to watch. Cuong and TZ are on the top of the 2010 rookie list!

New membership applications are still flowing in, and the VeloViets leads are reviewing them right now. There will be more rookies. This year may be one of the strongest rookie group ever in VeloViet history!

  2. Rookie to VV but NOT "rookie" on a bike.
There has been many good riders that joined VV over the recent years.

As I always say, "You are who you surround yourself around with"

  3. Warrior (aka Mr 30 MPH),

You are right! You joined in the middle of 2009 so I guess you are considered a 2010 VeloViet Rookie.

Cuong & TZ, man you guys gotta work extra hard now to compete with The Warrior. He is pretty fast!

I guess the rookie winner has gotta have: be a first time VeloViet rookie, strength on the bike for all terrain, bike handling skills, bike tactical sense, and ride consistency. By consistency I mean that even if the rookie is strong, but only shows up a few times in the year, then he or she doesn't meet the consistency qualification.

Does that sound right Cap't Thomas & other judges?

This is the strongest VeloViet rookie team ever! There may be good riders that joined in the past, but have there been this many that joined in the same year? If so, what year and who?

  5. Yes im officially "the warrior" now aka Mr. 30 mph. Id have to admit i picked up cycling pretty fast as ive only been riding since Aug 08. I believe my first ride with VV was Sept 09. Looks like it came pretty natural to me, wonder why i didnt look into it earlier.

  6. VV,
Yes, the race is on...however, the year is still long. Many unpredictable changes and challenges are awaiting for us. Some may end up winning other categories.

Additionally, the criteria may get stiffer and the bar will raise higher. :-)

In the meantime, the spirit of friendly competition will fuel our internal engine fire that propel all of us to achieve greater result. I have heard many times in the past years, Riders who joined VV club get stronger and stronger. Borrowing from BP's words, "you are strong as those who surround you." Strong as a team is what we are promoting.

    The challenge continues...ride safely.

  7. Yes i will try hard to keep up with Warrior but it is not easy. on Sunday ride 1/17 i think the speed was 24-27mph most of the time. i can feel the extra load to my body and i like to try few more time with A group to see if i can make it or not. but no matter what, i ride stronger then before with VV.
